I am getting following error when i start node manager in WLS 9.2 over HP Unix,

Hi everybody just want to ask, as I don't seem to get a clear enough answer when searching in the forums, which sections will definitely be asked in the exam? I heard that gui's won't be in, what else don't they ask because I would like to take the time I would have spent on those sections and spend it on the relevant ones that will definitely be asked. EJB 3.0 and Web service

Hi there,
I have a problem: I have created a stateless session bean, which has web services methods, too. The deployment seems to be ok: my JBoss also gives me the URL where I can find the wsdl; moreover, I can watch the wsdl; moreover, I find the wsdl file into the data folder.
However, my browser cannot reach the URL for the wsdl (HTTP-404). And it seems right, because in the web module I have not specified anything to reach it.
So, if I have an ear, what should I do to publish the wsdl?

Hi Ranchers,

As you know JSP in XML format appeared in JSP 1.2, meaning long time ago. And I would like to ask a quick question:
If your manager ask you : "Why don't you use JSP Document instead of standard JSP?", how will you answer(justify to) him?

So far, I just get some answers:
* JSP documents can be passed directly to the container.
* The XML view of the JSP document can be used to validate the JSP document against a description of the set of valid pages.
* JSP documents can be manipulated via XML-aware tools.
* An XML transformation, like XSLT, can be used to generate a JSP document from a textual representation.

These reasons seem to be not so strong, huh!<...

Hi all,

Iam closing a file from the body of the finalize() method and am not sure what will happen if an exception is thrown by the close() method.

The javadoc state the following (Iam not exactly sure what this means, I mean if the finalization is terminated, then the object is not garbage collected?):
If an uncaught exception is thrown by the finalize method, the exception is ignored and finalization of that object terminates.

Also thinking about explicitly calling the finalize method.

Does anyone know what the best practice guidelines are regarding these two things?

Exception setting property value with CGLIB

I have an User table in my MySQL database. I changed one column of that table from STATUS(varchar) to ISACTIVE(boolean).

Now when I call any getter method of the User bean, which corresponds to the User table, I get following exception:

exception setting property value with CGLIB (set hibernate.cglib.use_reflection_optimizer=false for more info) setter of com.bean.Expert.setIsActive

What can be the reason for this?

I have appropriately chaned the user.hbm.xml file and User.java bean class

I have a String in the form of

In this String, I want to replace "C:\Documents and Settings\dmadmin" with "C:" so that the resultant Sting is
"<EMBED src='C:\Docu\Viewed\0906985f8000197c.pdf' height='490' width='1000'/>"

I am doing something like this

String dataString=sess.getAttribute("myEmbedString").toString(); //gets the comlete String
dataString = dataString.replaceAll("C:\\Documents and Settings\\dmadmin","C:");

But the value is not getting replaced. Please tell me how to sovle this issue.

I understand that String objects are immutable, so these when you apply these methods to a String object, a new String object is returned.
Above, both the substring() and trim() should return "String".
So, why do they give different results when compared to "String"?

One of my friend is working with a big company as consultant, they have asked her to discontinue -- Due to decrease in the ...in the department, we intend to discontinue the services of some of our consultants. is the mail from the company specifying the reason for discontinuation of the service provided by my friend.

Is is advisable to say accepted to this, will it not affect further career of my friend? or should my friend resign, saying for personal reasons, I would like to resign. Which of the two options is safer for my friend? Kindly reply any of you, as decision is to be taken within a day or two.

hi all,

I have sometimes a problem with connections being blocked in pool. I use JBoss AS and Postgres, connection pool with standard params: max size 100, blocking timeout 30000ms. Usually I see that 0-5 connections are in use, but there are moments (once per few days, but as I keep getting more and more visitors it's more often now) when I got 60, and even 100 and start getting 'no managed connections available' error. Flushing pool helps.

Probably some parts of the code are blocking connections. How can I find them?

I'm just being preemptive here, cos you know how things work in dev, and then you move it into test, and things that were always working on your machine stop working. ;-)

I was wondering, Why, or rather, under which conditions would a SecurityException be thrown when calling getCanonicalFile, or getCanonicalPath from the File class. Currently I am doing this in dev, and it's working no probs. I am just wondering why this would happen, and if it does happen, what I can do to stop this from happening.

The java doc says... "If a required system property value cannot be accessed, or if a security manager exists and its java.lang.SecurityManager#checkRead method denies read access to the file"

JFileChooser + FileView = bad performance with Thumbnails

Hello!

My quest is to add the ability of a thumbnail view for jpg,gif and png images to JFileChooser, just like windows explorer.

So I created a FileView that reads and scales every image file and return it, so that the image is used as a icon for the file.

This works theoretically perfect, however I have huge performance problems. It seems as if all images are being loaded before they are displayed.

So before I can even open a folder, all images are read in and displayed.

Is there a way to solve this problem? I thought about Threads, but I couldn't find a way how to implement useful threading in this case.

Has anybody tried integrating Picasa web Uploader API in your struts program. I am researching if we can integrate this as we need to get several photos uploaded in our system for users to manage and our current uploader is now limiting.

From what I have read here, I am finding it a bit difficult to figure out how would we integrate/implement remote service (the server side program) in our system. Has anybody tied something similar? Any pointers, help would be highly appreciated!

hi all,
I got failed in scjp 1.5 exam by 44 %. It is really tough exam guys specially if you have not practiced the mock exams. Only therotical knowledge is not enough. Threads, generics and collection questions are really difficult.
I just prepared for 9 days. Still i think i would have been cracked it if i would have done some practice for 3-4 days more. But still i am going to appear once again for the exam after one month and that time nobody can stop me taking my first java certification.

I have the following requirement.

I have a list of check boxes(say 100 check boxes) in my JSP page. Each check box specifies different book name. The user clicks some check boxes and clicks the Add button.

Then the list of book's (checked by the the user through check boxes) should get automatically added into my session attribute.

So that I can use the session.

Is it possible(in any way) to add bunch of attributes into session(or any scope) automatically?

jar file issue

Hi

I am working on filenet. There is jar file called p8toolkit.jar, which need to be added to the classpath. Now there are two ways of doing it:

1. Add an explicit path of the file in CLASSPATH environment variable
2. put the p8toolkit.jar in ext folder or jre/lib

In both the cases the java file that imports the classes from the jar file, gets compiled.

But I try to run the application using the first case, it works fine. But in the second case, an error crops up when i try to access the index page of the application.

Im creating a dialog box where I would like to use a static factory method as opposed to a public constructor. Without the static factory method I need to use two constructors because I need to use two different objects that I will display in the dialog. If I were to use a static factory method is it recommended to use two static factory methods, one for each different object, and set both constructors to private?

Question on loading class from Jar File

When I search through a jar file to find a ".class" file, how do I know the proper package it's in? For example, if the jar file has it in the directoy:

src/com/somecompany/SomeClass

It will try to create the class "src.com.somecompany.SomeClass" but src is not a package. I need to create it starting at "com." How do people handle this?

Dear Ranchers,

I am very new to JSF (have little experience with JSP) and I tried to create a same application with netbeans and it worked very well.. I understand that JSF is build on the top of JSP or rather servlet by defining custom JSP tag.. But I couldn't find any tld descriptor in the sample applicaiton i deployed using netbeans (but it works well) and no taglib tag in the web.xml file.. So I am little puzzled how it works!!!

I have been using eclipse and I find JSF support pathetic.. I have to install so many other plugins and I keep getting compatibility problem and it doesn't work very well.. Where as Netbeans (I am not a netbeans fan) works pretty well for this.. I just have to click next and it works lik...

not opening a page in browser

When i send request to jsp page using forward, it is not opening page in browser. I am calling this page from servlet.

Using debug, i pointed out that it is calling a jsp page, and not giving any exception on server console but it is not opening in browser.

Anybody can give possible reason for that or how to solve this problem?

JBoss class path issue

Hello,

I have noticed that even though I include libraries (jar,zip etc) inside the EAR file (under WIB-INF\lib folder) JBoss application server is unable to find the classes inside those libraries. It will work if the copy the libraries into server\default\lib folder which is not a good practice. Any ideas why it happens ?

We have installed a number of servers as part of our development environment with a BASE trial version of WAS 6.1 and then applied service packs to take the build version to 6.1.0.13.

Having completed some work on these machines we are now looking at upgrading them to full licenses and hitting a bit of an issue. It is no longer possible to rerun the original install using the full license version of the software.

After some time looking for an answer and raising a call with IBM Tech Support. The answer appears to be to install the full version to a scratch server, copy of the WAS.LICENSE file and drop it onto the trial server before it expires. The server no longer reports the number of days left b...

When I search through a jar file to find a ".class" file, how do I know the proper package it's in? For example, if the jar file has it in the directoy:

src/com/somecompany/SomeClass

I won't be able to create the class "src.com.somecompany.SomeClass" since src is not a package. How do people handle this?

I understand that if I write the cookie to .xyz.com then it should be avilable in xyz.com and a.xyz.com. Are these two separate cookies ? Applet Red X and Class not found Error

My Servlet log is reporting following error sporadically for a user and user is getting Red X on the applet. I have not seen this error for a while but one of the users reported this issue. Do you guys know what could be the cause of this issue? All the other users are fine except one user and that user is also able to access applet without any issue after a while.

I have a question (my firts question on Web Component)

The HFSJ Book say that the "Request Attributes" are thread-safe.

But... Thinking, i imagine the next situation:

-Supose that ONE Servlet set a attribute on the request object and Dispatch the request to a JSP (JSP1), and before complete the service method, Dispatch again to another JSP or Servlet (<- is that posible?)
-The JSP1 take the request send by the servlet, and the jsp page will procesing that request. but.. before proceseing the request, the another Sevlet (or JSP2) change the attribute, setting a new Attribute (change) to the request, and finally, the JSP1 process the firts request.

I am exposing some methods of an EJB as a webservice. The code compiles fine and I was also able to deploy application on weblogic 10.0.1.
But when I go to console to view my deployments, I see that the bean is not deployed. Also the webservice is also not deployed.

I'm having problems getting maven 2.0.9 deploy goal to work over ssh. Every time I trigger mvn deploy I'm being asked to provide password (about 6 times for each deploy). The client pc is a windows XP machine and the repository is running on a linux server. My settings.xml looks like this

I have been stuck with this topic since a long time and still not clear with the use/implementaion of equals() and hashCode()

In the following code, how does commenting or uncommenting hashCode()
effect the out put.

Commenting - output-> 3
Uncommenting - output-> 2

Also, which two objects are being compared in equals() when put() is called.

I know when put() is called hashCode() is implicitly called to store in the right "bucket" and equals() is called to make sure there is no duplicate objects.
But which two objects are being compared - like in the case of
m.put(t1,"Do laundary");
( Ther is only one object here)

I have used JExcel to read a spreadsheet's data. If a cell in the spreadsheet is of type 'DateCell' I get it type-casted to a DateCell and then call getDate() method on it. I'm looking for a robust and easy way to detect incomplete XML file using JAVA. I know I can build a parser using XMLReader class to read the XML and catch any SAXParseException that will be thrown. But I'm wondering if there's already a standard way to do this.

Standalone application in JBoss

I have an application, which connects to some DB and based on some values, updates some values in some other DB, after some specified time interval. I am using Quartz for scheduling the lookup activity.

Would it make sense to run this in JBoss or as a standalone application? I understand JBoss is an application server. In my scenario would I derive any benefit if I go for JBoss?

I am more of a Swing developer and have used Tomcat till now for my applets/servlets and JSP. Any ideas to point me in the right direction will be most appreciated.
