Recognizing the interest in alternative languages for the Java VM, we've started a new discussion section for Other Languages (http://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?category=11). For starters, it contains the following forums:

Other Languages (http://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=60) (this is the old "Object Oriented Scripting" forum with a new name)

Groovy (http://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=90)

Scala (http://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=91)

Obviously we're interested in people using these to discuss their favorite languages (or in asking questions so that they have a chance to make t...

I'd really like to post questions/discussions about the Scala programming language in a dedicated spot. There are currently a couple topics under general computing, and one under Object Oriented Scripting. I guess as a catch-all general computing is currently the most appropriate place. I don't tend to think of Scala as a scripting language, although as Marc Peabody pointed out to me it can be used for scripting. I'm not really all that picky about it, I just want to nail down where would be the most appropriate location.

Maybe even a new forum called Other JVM languages (or something like that).

Thoughts?

I think if you let a particular topic reach a certain number of posts, people will feel some unfairness when you suddenly lock it. Either close it from the get go(it was quite easy to predict from the very first post where the windows vs. other OS was going to set into motion) or then acknowledge that it is just MD and allow it to grow no matter what kind of crap people are saying. Reading your reason for closing the windows thread even I was a bit confused. Was is closed because it had meaning? or was it clo...
