Passed SCWCD upgrade (310-84) 92%

This morning I passed the upgrade from SCWCD 1.4 to 5.
The test was 50 questions in 2 1.2 hours, more that enough time.
More design patterns than I expected (10-15%). Also deployment descriptors and EL were emphasized.
I mostly used "HFSJ 2nd ed", "SCWCD Study Companion" by Lyons, and Marcus Greens' web site.
If you have the time to read both books, I suggest HFSJ first and Lyons second. I found HFSJ is good at getting the basic ideas, and then I had enough context to hang the details in Lyons.

Ok, so it's not as good a grade as others around here, but it's a pass, and I am ready to be done with this exam. I was running out of time on my voucher, so I had to take the test before I felt confident about it.

I cannot study at work, and I don't have much time to study online at home, so I found this certification very difficult to study for, as most of the good, concise, and non-dry information is on the web. So for the first 9-10 months of my studying, I was stuck with RMH, which is so boring that I would fall asleep rather quickly every time I picked it up and read a few pages (I am not exaggerating). I am not sure we should use a reference book for this ideally, but it's what we are stuck with.

Hi ranchers,
I have finally cleared SCWCD 1.4 with 94%. So it is time for party now.
Exam level was not that much tough. Most of the questions were very direct and you can answer them very easily. Given time limit (3 hrs) is more than enough.

Here is my preparation story.
Read Head first book twice.
Read the specifications and i must say going this specs is really tough. Most of the time i used to feel drowsy to read those long long sentences in the spec and used to get confused. But referring to those spec is very useful.So people who are preparing for SCWCD ,don't miss the specs.

i closely failed the exam by score of 58%
i kinda took a break of 2 months then i got back to work ... i had missed a lot of things , yesterday i passed the exam with a good score (80%)

I have a complaint though, The Review mechanism for the Marked Questions is not addecuate for the Drag and Drop Questions(in my opinion), When I started the review and had to review a Drag and Drop Question, it warned me that the Question was already answered, and that I WOULD HAVE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION AGAIN if I proceeded --> non-sense!

Today I have cleared SCDJWS exam with 94%(not a bad score right )
Though I didnt have real time experience I did it .
Thanks to Peer Reynders for his help in the begining of my preparation.
I want to thank all java ranchers who helped me in undertstanding the things better and clearing my doubts.
TechTracer and javaranch forum helped me in starting the preparation.
I started with XYZWS material and which helped me in undertstanding what is what.
Then I switch to RMH for more clear picture.
Actually things was like ocean but I got some pearls with the help of javaranch divers.

Preparations:
- Spent about two months studying about 1 hour per day.
- Read chapters 1-17 in O'Reilly Enterprise Javabeans 3.0.
- Read through Mikalai Zaikins Notes.
- Created one Interceptor class at work.
- Created one EJB 3.0 Stateless Bean at home, with quick app to call it.
- Only mock I took was Sun's proficiency exam (the 10 questions), about halfway through O'Reilly book and got 50%.
- I have about a year's worth of experience working with EJB 2.0 beans, not creating them just using them via lookups, modifying, etc.

Actual Exam:
- Was easier than I expected it to be. I did not encounter any drag & drop questions, and I felt pretty comfortable. Questions were very straightforward...

Hi Friends,

Thanks for the support that Ranchers given to me. Its really a great help. And i understood the exam is trickiness than toughness. Just code the thinks so that you can familiar with some of the tricky Questions. I also prepared Whiz labs which makes to expose the reality of the exam and its trickiness and its really worth full. Pay more attention to API, Exceptions and Concurrency where one should get mastered these questions and be careful in you might get into commit mistakes and the last but not the least Katthy and Berts book is the real exam what is there in the book is just there in the Exam. Don't get hurry for writing the exam, take your own time in Understanding the book and then analyze the topics and then ...

I passed SCEA 5 Part I with 67%. I did not give any mock tests as I could not find any simulator.
I used the following books
1) JavaEE Tutorial from the web site of Sun
2) Mastering EJB by Ed Roman
3) Head First Design Patterns
4) Core JavaServer Faces (2nd Edition) - by David Geary, Cay S. Horstmann
5) Sun Certified Enterprise Architect by Mark Cade
6) Core J2EE design pattern
7) Core J2EE Design Pattern

I felt the exam difficult and the choices were very close. You have to read between the lines in this exam.

I was expecting them to be atleast 80% .I still think i can do much better than this.

I passed yesterday, 4 weeks to the day (almost to the minute) from when I completed the essay portion (uploaded Thursday, took essay Friday).

Thanks to all of the helpful ranchers, and a great big thank you to Andrew and Terry for the book.

Overall, I learned a ton. Much like having my kids, it was exhausting but ultimately worth it.

Passed CX-310-065 with 87% (which surprised me). Been programming in Java for 10 years. First time I took this type of test. Hardest test since Grad school, 30 years ago - yes, I'm on the old side.

Used Sierra/Bates (Java 5) and Mughal/Rasmussen (Java 1.4) books. Where the two overlap, each covers a topic from a different angle. Mughal is probably more thorough. Took about 2 months prep. Also went through Sun's Proficiency Assessment System (http://www.sun.com/training/certification/assessment/055-Jintro.jsp) and purchased Sun's ePractice exam (WGS-PREX-J065C). I think these last two helped as much as the books.

Passed the certification with 84%.

Ironically, I scored the lowest (40%) in the first objective (XML Web Service Standards). Apparently showed me (rather painfully) that I need to concentrate on the bare basics before learning advanced concepts

My list of items used for preparation (gleaned mostly from fellow ranchers in here):

1. RMH - The bible. Read this 5-6 times cover to cover. (MUST)
2. Blueprints - MUST read chapters 3,4,5,7,8
3. MZ notes - Excellent source for revision. Helped me greatly specifically for Security and JAXB.
4. xyzws quiz - A little ambiguous sometimes but helpful nonetheless. (Dont take the test more that twice. The questions start to repeat.)<...

Today I cleard SCJP exam with a 93% score, way much higher than I expected. My average score with Enthuware was 76% and my Last Day exam score was 86%. I'd like to thank K&B for their EXCELLENT, must-have, book, Enthuware people for their amazing test software, and, of course, this Java Ranch which, even though this is my first post, has helped me so much with all my doubts.

Yesterday it was my first participation in Javaranch and today i did the SCJP 5.0 exam, im very happy to pass it with an excellent score "97%", but i think if i was participating in Javaranch frequently, i would score 100%, because Javaranch team are professional and can clear all the doubt about Java issues

hello all,
I gave the exam yesterday and cleared the exam. I only studied Head First EJB(K&B), thanks to K&B for their wonderful book and also thanks to all the members of the javaranch.
when i gave the exam at prometric centre, at the end of the exam there was some error in the testing software or on the server side and it did not printed the score report. Can any on guide, if i can get the score report through email from prometric or sun.

After 3 months of intense preparation i finally cleared the scjp 1.5 exam on 27th April with a percentage score of 88%.I had studied k&b book 2 times .Beleive me,only this book can get you a good score.I had studied 1 hour
almost daily for 3 months,practise the mock tests at the end of each chapter and lots of experiments on those codes.I went through
almost all the mock exams link given on this website.I got 55% and 77% in the mock cd of K & B.Got very nervous seeing the first result.But i have seen many people saying the CD version to be more tougher than the original test.So i consoled myself.Last few days i was recollecting the important

I just passed the SCWCD with 88% this a.m. And fortunately, I was offered with a release containing 80 topics, which was recongnized not as difficult as the one with 69 topics.

Well, apirl 30th is approaching, so I just took up the 310-081.

By now, Head First Servlet & JSP is consumingly considered as the first-class guide.

I have cleared SCWCD 1.5 exam today with 92%.

Read through HFSJ 1.4 some 4 times!!
SCWCD Study Kit by Hanumant Deshmukh helped a lot.
Done JWebPlus mock tests. It is worthwhile doing JWebPlus from the point of examination.
I found Coffee Cram exam more difficult than the actual exam, though the actual exam had some nice questions. Scored 75% in Coffee Cram exam, more because of the jargon than the skill level.
The SCWCD 1.5 exam is completely performance based. You do need to know the entire syllabus in minute detail though. The questions were completely strighforward. They test your analytical skills and subtle things in the code. Having said that, HFSJ does a...

Hi ranchers,

I want to share my thoughts on the exam and some prep tips:

About the exam:

1) I would say it has 50% straight forward questions and rest little tricky but not very tricky.
2) Time given was more than enough, you should be able to complete the exam and complete revision of all your answers with out a hitch
3) Relatively easier than the HFSJ mock test and also than Wizlabs mock tests

About Prep tips:

1) HFSJ book is pretty good for this exam
2) Concentrate on API of (HTTP)Servlet(Request/Response), ServletContext, HttpSession,Cookie etc..
3) Stress on EL, Custom tag libraries (question on these topics are tougher compared to other topics)

Questions from drag and drops were really confusing a lot.
Missed one in this section.
Concentrate well on Blue print for design web services questions.

The detailed flow for preparation can be
RMH ( covers almost everything, also wonderful book. )
Blue print( after RMH go through this )
Vals spec mapping and the left topics.

Mocks
XYZWS ( Wonderful. Some questions did turn up for the real exam)
Whizlab(Trial)

Topics needs to be concentrated.
JAXB ( since RMH does not have this neither Blue prints many questions from this )
Security ( All security concepts are not available anywhere as a whole point need to refe...

I have cleared SCJP 5.0 on April 11th . I am a silent member of JavaRanch. It took 25 days to prepare for the Exam.
